Things are well into routine now with teaching the lessons remotely during lockdown. The private lessons are continuing via Skype and Zoom and the transition has gone very smoothly. This format does certainly bring some convenience for pupils/parents and is likely to be offered as an option in the long term. Although there has been some disruption for pupils that were working towards grades, we've had the chance to vary what we've been learning and explore different songs and techniques. Some pupils will be trialling the new form of recorded exams that are being offered by LCME. Many of my pupils have made such great use of the additional free time they have under lockdown and managed an impressive amount of practise, with amazing results - songwriting, brilliant guitar solos, jazz improvisation, amazing fingerstyle playing and more!
For the school lessons I've continued this by providing pre-recorded video lessons along with giving feedback to audio/videos of pupils' performances. It's so good to be able to keep things going as much as possible.
It's brilliant that music is able to provide an outlet, source of creativity and a distraction for people at this time. Things will be flexible going forwards and continue as best as possible under the changing circumstances. I hope you all stay safe and continue to enjoy your music!
